SELECTED

PROJECTS

Road Scholar

At Road Scholar I worked with the Information Technology department as a Business Analyst.  I worked with user groups within the organization to define and document workflow, reporting requirements, and automate manual processes.

My responsibilities included understanding the operational structure of the processes and investigating options for improvement through either technical or other means.  I also facilitated meetings where a decision on strategic direction was required for planning a new web interface.  I managed project details for documentation of new software development and organized vendor demonstrations of new software tools.

Worcester Public

The Worcester Public Library faced a challenge when a new Head Librarian resigned after only 3 months.  I was appointed as interim Head Librarian while the search for a replacement took place.  I served in the role for eight months until the position was permanently fille.

As Head Librarian I was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the second largest urban library in Massachusetts.  In this role I managed a staff of nearly 100, oversaw the library's budget, planning, and worked closely with many City departments.  I learned a great deal about the complexities of a large urban public library and the role of an interim director.

Special projects during my time at the library include:

  • Staff reorganization

  • Building renovation planning

  • Budget preparation

  • Union negotiations and hearings

MLA Strategic Plan

The Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) selected me to work with them on their strategic planning process.  The Board, Planning Committee, and I worked together for over a year to complete a thorough set of outreach and communication activities.  The new plan strengthens and renews the association's mission of advocacy for libraries and librarians in the state.

As the facilitator I provided these services:

  • Background analysis

  • Meeting planning and logistics

  • Brainstorming sessions

  • Discussion facilitation

  • Focus groups

  • Follow up documentation
